Ernest Hemingway's family spent their summers on Walloon Lake and the area is featured in many of his short stories. The route begins at Washington Park, but any point at the south end of town will do--just make sure to head south on Howard Road. After a few steep rolling hills around Petoskey, the ride is flat to moderately rolling until you hit the steep rollers on the return to Petoskey.
