This ride starts and ends in downtown Redmond. The ride north out of Redmond can be tricky for a mile with the new Wal-Mart on N. Canal and the new interchange. But beyond there, the traffic is light and the roads are good (except for a quarter-mile stint on Oneil Way). The ride back up NE First is brutal: steep, but short. Once you're out of town, it's smooth riding through farm countryside.
The best way to see the park is by ditching the pavement, so a cross bike is an excellent choice for this ride. Another suggestion: Hike about one mile up to Misery Ridge Trail for fantastic vistas of the Cascades. It's steep and strenuous, but it's doable in mountain bike shoes.
