The Samedi Velo cycling club rides out of Saint Andre d'Argenteuil each Saturday morning at 9 a.m. They have 3 levels (beginner, intermediate and sport). This sport level ride was 40 miles by the Ottawa River, through an Native American reservation and then back through farmland pastures in a nice, relatively fast paced (20 mph average) loop. Cool weather and a light breeze made you forget about how hot summer can be. The ride starts and finishes at a local school with several depanneurs (convenience stores) nearby if you need food or drink. Nearby hills, lakes and rivers offer other options for riding, horseback, white-water rafting, hiking and just plain relaxing.

Start/Finish
Location: 45.544832°, -74.333496°
Samedi Velo meets at a local school with parking available both on street and in nearby parking lots - all free. The group meets between 8:30AM and 9:00AM and leaves by 9:15 with at least 3 different ride levels. This week around 50 people enjoyed clear blue skies and mid-70's temperatures.

Ottawa River tributaries
Location: 45.544832°, -74.333496°
There are many areas where other tributaries connect into the Ottawa River. This view from a bridge in St. Andre and others similar views as you parallel the river are common. This ride rolls mostly from west to east, so you'll be 'flowing downhill' with the river for the first half of the ride, but it's less than 50 feet of true vertical drop - no real hills for the first 15 or so miles.
Location: 45.564545°, -74.215393°
Farmland surrounds you for most of the 2nd half of the ride. You'll have straight, flat and generally well maintained roads to ride on. There are some areas where the pavement has suffered weathering, so if you find yourself on such a road, just slow down - it won't be long before you pass the problem area.
Ottawa River
Location: 45.527517°, -74.282684°
The Ottawa River starts in Ontario and eventually connects to the St. Lawrence Seaway, a major shipping channel between the great lakes and the Atlantic.
French road signs
Location: 45.553006°, -74.197540°
Remember that Québec is a French speaking province, so expect road signs (like this stop sign) to be in French. Also expect mile markings to be in kilometers, so if someone tells you to travel 50 kilometers, you'll only be going about 30 miles. Residents also speak French, but if you try to communicate, you'll find a way.
Small Canadian towns
Location: 45.569832°, -74.100037°
There are a few towns between the farmland, but most are only one or two streets of activity before you're back into more farmland.
