Charlotte, NC: The US National Whitewater Center Trails

One of the toughest local trails in the area due to the amount of steep climbing, this park is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. You can raft, kayak, climb and mountain bike all within 15 minutes of Carolina’s largest city.

Formally known as Catawba Riverfront Park, mountain bike trails have been here since the early 90's. A few years ago, a group of people decided this would be a great place to build a man-made whitewater river, the world's largest in fact. The trails were closed for about 2 years and many were destroyed during the construction. Thanks to the Tarheel Trailblazers, they are back and they are just as good as before. At the US National Whitewater Center, you can take kayak lessons, rent out boats and/or full suspension Giant mountain bikes, and try out flat water kayaking on the Catawba River. There is also a pro shop and a great full service restaurant called The Eddy on premises. The park entrance is at the end of Hawfield Road.
