This rolling ride follows a bike route through some of Cleveland’s Metro Parks (dubbed the Emerald Necklace) from the Cedar-Lee district to Bedford and back on a shorter route. It’s a great ride for winter days when you want to get out and spin for a few hours and have a hot drink along the way. Start at the Stone Oven or Phoenix Coffee Shop, head east and south to the Chagrin River Valley, and take another java stop 23 miles in at Arabica Coffee or Cyber Pete's in Bedford. That should keep you energized for the last 15 miles of the route.
This is a gently rolling route, with the exception of the drop into and back out of the Chagrin River Valley. Most of the roads have wide shoulders or bike lanes. The route through the Emerald Necklace is a designated bike route, and the parks have bike paths that parallel the road in most places, too. When you head out of Bedford, there’s a brief busy stretch on Richmond Rd., but there’s a bike lane on Brainard Rd. for your escape north back to Cedar-Lee.
