Sovereign is a singletrack departure from Moab’s jeep roads and wide-open slickrock. The mostly hard-pack trail heads north from Willow Springs Road and zigzags around the rolling canyon terrain for 6 miles on its way to a stretch of slickrock--yes, you still get some of the sticky stuff--on the northern end of the trail.
Difficulty: Intermediate. Sovereign has occasional technical rocky sections and some steep climbs, but smooth singletrack fills in the gaps. A skilled rider can clean the entire trail.
Want more? Sovereign is nestled between the Bar M and Klondike Bluffs trails, so it’s easy to add miles. Plus, Bartlett Wash and other rides are just across US 191.
TO TRAILHEAD: From Center St. and Main St./US 191 in Moab, go N on US 191 12.8 miles to Willow Springs Trail. Turn right; the road is rough but passable for most passenger cars. Go 2 miles to trailhead. 1 mile up 191, Dalton Wells Rd is an alternate approach, accessing the trail 5.5 miles north of Willow Springs.
