STAGE 14
Tracing the humid Mediterranean coast for 118 miles from Narbonne to Nmes, the Tour de France continues on the flats towards the high Alps. This stage is destined--again--for a field-sprint finish.
Pressure from team sponsors may come into play yet again as the Tour only affords 21 opportunities for a team to make a mark on the race and gain valuable sponsor exposure. Teams that have yet to win a stage may respond by sending a rider off on a multi-hour solo breakaway or, with desperate measures, in the closing miles of the stage. In either case, winning the stage is part of the motivation, but not having yet won a stage is another.
