From Bruce Hildenbrand, cycling journalist: You will be -circumnavigating Mt. Washington, the highest mountain in the Northeast. Jefferson Notch Road, which is partially dirt, is the highest public road in New Hampshire. As you descend, you'll come to a four-way intersection--go straight on Mt. Clinton Road.

START: White Mountain Hwy. and Rt. 16, heading north for 23 miles. Left on Rt. 2 in town of Gorham; follow it for 11 miles. Left on Valley Rd. for 1 mile. Left on Jefferson Notch Rd.; follow it for 8 miles. Straight at junction to Mt. Clinton Rd. for 3 miles. END: Left to Rt. 302; follow it for 19 miles back to Glen.
