Scratch your singletrack itch with this 11.4-mile after-work-accessible trail that climbs 1,700 feet of classic Wasatch canyon and pays off with a downhill along the forested floor.
From the southeast corner of the parking lot, follow the smooth singletrack east intoGreen Canyon. As it criss-crosses the dirt road, the trail cruises mature-growth aspen, shaded forest and open meadows that—true to the canyon’s name—are green most of the year. Just before the 1-mile mark, you’ll pass just south of an old quarry. About two-thirds of the way through the 1,700-foot climb you’ll skirt the mouth of Water Canyon before climbing a narrow section between slopes. There are a couple of stretches of road with no paralleling singletrack, but the trail access points can be hard to spot, so you’ll likely spend a little time on the road until you learn where they are. This out-and-back’s turn-around point is a view-touting scree field at mile 5.7; the trail continues up canyon from this point, but the climbing steepens and the trail turns rocky and technical. Note that this popular and well-traveled trail is just a few miles from downtown Logan and Utah State’s bustling campus, so watch for traffic (and watch your speed) on the downhill run.

Though the canyon continues northeast past this route's turn-around (this rocky pile at mile 5.7), the trail's fun-factor diminishes up ahead as it gets increasingly steep and technical. Before turning back, check out down-canyon views of the Cache Valley.
