Cornelius, OR--Iowa Hill loop

A nice shorter ride on mostly rural roads in Washington County Oregon. One good hill of nearly 1000 ft adds to the workout.

A good ride for when time is short.  The ride begins from the Fred Meyer parking lot at 2200 Baseline Rd., Cornelius, Oregon, 97113, and heads west on Hwy 8 until taking a left onto 10th St.  After getting out of town the name changes to Golf Course Rd.  After a few miles you cross the Tualatin River and continue to Forest Hills Golf Course.  At the golf course a right turn takes you up Iowa Hill Rd past some nice homes with great views.  Very near the top of the hill the name of the road changes to Unger Rd and swings to the left.  As you crest the hill you get a nice view of Mt Hood, Oregon's highest at 11,242 ft, and also get a good view of the fast descent that awaits!  It's possible to reach speeds over 50 mph on the descent.  There are some 15 mph corners about half way down but a short  ascent helps to slow you down before reaching them.  Still, caution here is important. After the run down Unger Rd you take a left on Hwy 219, then a left on Simpson Rd which brings you back to the golf course completing the loop.  Backtrack to Fred Meyer to finish up the ride, or if you feel strong go for a second lap!
