With the Tour de France virtually decided, the last stage to Paris is likely to be another ceremonial group ride parade to Paris. Champagne will be sipped, photos will be snapped, and someone will be riding a shiny yellow bike in a shiny yellow jersey. The pace will get quite a bit less polite as the peloton enters Paris proper for its 8-lap circuit on the Champs-Élysées. Winning in Paris is considered to be a career highlight for sprinters, so despite the flurry of attacks throughout the circuit, don’t be surprised to see the 2009 Tour de France end in a fast and furious field sprint on the sport’s grandest stage.
