On this local favorite, you get to enjoy a little bit of everything east county has to offer. You get the steady climb of Dehesa, the "wall" before turning at the beehive, and the rollers and twisting, winding, fast descent down Lyons Valley. If you're in a group, there is a sprint for the sign near the bottom of Jamul Drive. If you DON'T LIKE twisty, winding, fast descents, you'll be better off doing a GWL variation and heading home via Skyline Truck Trail - fast but not curvey.
So - the next time you meet for the JB Ride at Rancho San Diego (leaving Sundays at 8:15 from the Starbucks parking lot) and somebody says "hey, let's finish up the ride with GWL", you'll know what they're talking about! Or, you could finish up with where ever JB wants to go (likely Janet's coffee shop in Alpine). JB's motto is "slow and taper", which makes for a nice day of riding. :)
