Here's where all the cyclists meet to start their rides in Boulder. Next door is North Boulder CycleSport, voted "Best New Bike Shop" by Bicycling magazine.

Continue Straight

On your right is Buckingham Park. This is also a good meeting point for riders and nice cool spot to take a quick break. From here you continue up the Canyon.

Head north to Hwy. 36

Hwy. 36 has a newly laid asphalt bike lane. Take Hwy. 36 north toward Lyons.

It's STEEP!

When you make a hard right turn here (Sawmill Road is on your left), it gets steep! You can do it! The ride is coming close to the end, and the General Store has cold drinks, ice cream, and other treats waiting for you at the top!

The Greenbriar Inn

A great restaurant and a useful landmark to mark your left turn into Lefthand Canyon. The climbing starts here!

The steepest road in the U.S.?..

On your left is Lickskillet Road. A shortcut to Gold Hill (another popular bike destination), it's an average of 15%+ gradient on loose dirt.

The turn for servious climbing!

Here's where you make your left turn toward Ward. You can't miss it--the sign says Ward 10 miles. Not feeling up to par? Then continue on James Canyon toward Jamestown. Jamestown is a shorter route with fantastic scenery and the Jamestown Mercantile at the end. Don't miss their daily special of pancakes with in-season berries.
