Analysis by Joe Lindsey, Bicycling.com blogger and Colorado Resident
Stage 2 might be main course, but today is the day that bakes the GC cake. This is the old Coors Classic TT course, which starts in Vail Village and finishes at the cul-de-sac on the frontage road on Vail Pass (not at the summit). It’s also been used for the last six years in the Teva Mountain Games. The course record is 25:48, set by Kenda-5 Hour Energy’s Ben Day. That will almost assuredly fall, but time gaps here will still be fairly tight. Later start times may benefit as a westerly wind that often picks up in the afternoon will help on the flatter section at the bottom. With zero tactics in the mix and very limited chances to make time in later stages, the overall leader here is likely going to be the winner.
