Portland, OR: Powell Butte Nature Park

As crowded as it can get on Powell Butte, it's always a little lost world of wildlife and serenity with great views of Portland, not to mention 10 miles of short steep climbs with matching descents and some complementary trail track.

Overall, this trail isn't very technical. This isn't a free ride park or an XC epic trail system. But some trails on Powell Butte are smooth, narrow, and fast. You can take it easy or really whoop it up here! Like most things in life, the trail on Powell Butte is what you make of it.

Powell Butte Nature Park sits on an extinct cinder cone. From the top you get brief but epic views of Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, Mount Jefferson, and Mount Adams.

If you start from the parking lot on SE 162 Avenue, you'll be starting from the top of the park. If you start from the Springwater Trail, you'll be starting at the bottom. This map starts at the bottom and circumnavigates the summit.

Watch out for horses, deer, runners, dogs, coyotes, rabbits, snakes, birders, photographers, other bikers.

For more info about the trails, check out the Portland Parks Department website.
