During the hot and humid Dog Days of August, join the St. Louis-based Bicycle Fun Club on this annual, countryside ride to the Dog Prairie Tavern for savory burgers and icy brews. The 22-mile loop starts from the parking lot at the Wentzville Crossing Outlets and travels east on the frontage road next to the I-70 corridor.
The ride transitions to quiet countryside nearly immediately as you cruise north past meadows, barns, and homesteads and link the towns of Josephville and St. Paul. (Cars are minimal on this ride, but you’ll likely share the road with other cyclists.) Although the route lacks any significant climbing, you’ll encounter a series of quick rollers en route to the tavern. Park your bike at Dog Prairie Tavern near mile 12, and re-fuel on burgers before the 10-mile ride back to Wentzville.
Note: The club charges $12 for non-members to ride (the fee includes a sag wagon).
