Eureka! Catch gold fever while winding through the heart of northern California’s Gold Country on this 151-mile loop in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The ride, which also passes through a myriad of vineyards, starts by winding through the rolling countryside just past the gold-rush town of Plymouth. The first 30 miles or so actually cruise downhill, wandering through lush farmland on quiet country roads and providing the ideal warm-up for the strenuous, super-century ahead.

The first major ascent begins at Chile Camp Road, which climbs just over 1,100 feet in about 13 miles. After hitting CA-26, enjoy an easy 6-mile descent before starting the ride’s longest uphill stretch: a 34-mile, low-grade grind that gains 1,774 feet with only a few short downhill respites. Along the way, you’ll pass the mammoth Camanche Reservoir – a popular fishing and recreation spot – along with the quaint gold-mining towns of Campo Seco and Paloma.

After reaching the ride's high point (3,430') at the top of Fullen Road, enjoy the spectacular panoramas of the surrounding countryside while coasting toward the town of Sheepranch, home to less than 100 hundred residents – and several hundred free-roaming sheep. Continue on past the California Historical Landmarks of Rail Road Flat and West Point before climbing over 1,000 feet of elevation in just over two miles on Red Corral Road. After one more strenuous climb just past the town of Volcano, you’ll hit the home stretch while pedaling west through gentle farmland blanketed with vineyards.
